I've been holding onto these images for a few weeks now, and honestly, it nearly killed me. You may remember Katherine and J.P. from their engagement session last fall. The two were married this past weekend in a beautiful outdoor ceremony in Asheboro, NC, and I am thrilled to finally have the freedom to display Katherine's lovely bridal portraits.

Katherine has such a classic look, ​with a certain grace and elegance about her, and the backdrop of the historic Patrick Henry building in downtown Roanoke, VA proved to be the perfect setting for such beauty.

Katherine's veil was actually created from her mother's wedding veil.​ I love when a bride is able to incorporate a family heirloom into her wedding in a new way.

weekend getaway and a happy birthday to lily :: virginia lifestyle photographer

This past weekend, Josh and I headed up to Maryland to stay with our friends Steph and Andy and their sweet little girl Lily and do some sightseeing in Washington D.C. I don't know how a child growing up on the Eastern side of the country ends up in her mid-20s without ever going to our nation's capital, since most people I know had taken some sort of school trip there by the age of 13, but I didn't. Read: I was probably way more excited about this trip than normal people would be.

Unfortunately, I only toted my digital camera around with me on our first day there, so that's the only day's events you get to see today. More photos from the rest of the weekend to come once I get my film developed. 

On Friday, we went to the National Harbor and took a ferry over to Old Town Alexandria, which is such a great little town full of cute boutiques and lots of history.

And, of course, I couldn't leave without getting a few shots of sweet little Lily. She and I are now BFFs, and today is her first birthday!!!

Is she not the cutest thing you've ever seen?!?!

Steph, Andy + Lily - Thank you so much for inviting us to stay with you!! We had such a GREAT time, and you guys are seriously the best hosts ever! I mean, for real, an easter basket full of candy outside our door on Sunday morning?! I've really got to up my hostessing game :)

walter+lila :: married :: blacksburg wedding photographer

This past weekend, I had the great pleasure of second shooting with the kind and talented Rebekah of Rebekah Loftis Photography. I headed up to Roanoke, Virginia on Friday night, since we were getting off to early start on Saturday, and I have to admit, it was definitely nice to have girls getaway and chat it up with Rebekah like two 11-year-old girls at a sleepover. We talked about photography, our own weddings, college, our husbands, jobs... you would have never known that we had just met one another for the first time that very day. I am so thankful that this industry has allowed to me to make so many new friends that I otherwise probably would have never known!

Walter and Lila, surely one of the most adorable couples I have ever seen, were married in a beautiful autumn outdoor ceremony at the Maison Beliveau Bed and Breakfast in Blacksburg. Their wedding was filled with so many beautiful details, all designed by Lila herself. There were blue mason jars as aisle decor, beautiful floral arrangements created by bridesmaid and friend Lynn of FloraLynn Designs (some of which included cotton bolls - I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS IDEA), table numbers with photos of the bride and groom at the age of the number, and even Jones soda customized with photos and drawings of the lovely couple.

I have to admit, spending so many weekends as the lead shooter, it's kind of nice to "relax", be told what to do, and just enjoy photographing a beautiful wedding. Here are a few of my favorites that I captured throughout the day...

IN LOVE with Lila's blue Manolos! They're also the same ones that adorned Carrie Bradshaw's feet in the Sex and the City movie.... SWOON!!

 

Walter and Lila's black labrador, Izzy, even had a part in the wedding.
