During our time in Germany, I had the pleasure of photographing a few mini-sessions for some fellow expat families. Not only did it allow me to keep my photography skills fresh, but I met some of the loveliest souls in doing so. We lived so close to this beautiful park, and I lugged my gear across on a sunny morning to capture the Holzwarths.

Much like us, they moved to Aachen with their two kids for a job opportunity. Devon is not only an amazing mother, but she is also a talented artist, with a focus in children's illustration. Check out her work here.

My favorite way to photograph families is to just let them interact naturally and allow kids to be kids. The results are fewer tears and grumpy faces and more beautiful moments like these...

I always like to sneak a photo or two of just mom and dad into each session. They were, after all, the originals :)

father-daughter mini session | greensboro family photographer

When Randy inquired about scheduling a portrait session for him and his daughter as a Mother's Day gift to his wife, I was more than happy to oblige. Mini-sessions are my #1 recommendation for parents with young kids - I know all too well how short their attention spans really are, having a toddler myself now. A brief session avoids burnout and prevents them from having too much time to get tired or hangry :) 

It's always my advice to parents at these sessions to just relax and let their kids play and do their thing. The photos will happen, but we all know that kids are the worst for the parents and the slightest command to smile can send a two year old into a downward spiral. Thankfully, Randy and his adorable Olivia were more than happy to wander Tanger Family Bicentennial Gardens in Greensboro just stopping to smell the flowers...

kamisha+adrian | maternity | greensboro family photographer

I was lucky enough to meet Kamisha and Adrian in 2011 when my business was just a baby, and they were brave enough to trust a new photographer with only a few weddings under her belt with the what was to be the most important day of their lives (A+K - I'll forever be grateful to to you for that). It was then that I first got to know them and their infectious happiness when I photographed their engagement session and sat down with them over dinner at Sweet Potatoes in what felt like a meal with old friends. The following year, I photographed their beautiful wedding celebration at The Lofts at Union Square in High Point, NC.

We've kept in touch, with Kamisha assisting me on styled shoots and meeting for the occasional coffee, and I was so insanely excited when she emailed me earlier this year to let me know they were expecting their first little one! It's truly one of the greatest honors and compliments I can receive when past clients invite me to continue documenting the most defining and exciting moments of their journey together. I met up with Adrian and Kamisha at the Tanger Family Bicentennial Garden in Greensboro last week for their maternity portraits (which basically turned out to be two hours of them laughing - at me and each other) in the beautiful fall evening light...

Adrian+Kamisha :: Thank you so much for continuing to allow me to photograph you as your family grows! I can't wait to meet your sweet baby boy NEXT MONTH!
